Let Adventure #1 Begin: House Pizzeria

Through some crazy happenstance an internet site for meeting people matched Ian and me up for liking the Goonies, but when I mentioned my quest to try every pizza spot in Austin, he enthusiastically agreed to join me.  Less than a day later, we were at House Pizzeria (Ian picked) and I was enjoying my very first pizza out of a wood oven.

And what a pizza it was!  We went with the Margherita Extra, basically a Margherita with Buffalo mozzarella instead of just plain “fresh” mozzarella.  It was heavenly.  The sauce, if I were to hazard a guess, was nothing but tomatoes and maybe a little salt.  The crust was ridiculously thin (no really, the other pizzas ridicule its thinness) and came out crispy and chewy with some char spots.  The cheese (oh, the cheese!) was fresh and milky, perfectly balancing the acidity of the sauce.  But, the best part was the fresh basil.  I don’t have a lot of experience with fresh herbs, but when I bit into a piece of basil it was like the leaf exhaled all of its basil goodness at once making those bites pizza nirvana; conversation stopped when one of us had a good bite, just so that we could focus and enjoy.
